Opening credits

One of the greatest opening credit sequences in the horror genre in my opinion is to finial destination 4. The transitions and the blood with the bones breaking and skeletons in x ray vision makes it super cool but also disturbing. It sets up exactly what the movie will be like. No complex character development just mindless killing. The soundtrack to it was hard core rock which added even more to the point of it just being a bunch of mindless killing. The transitions were super cool one being the spine of the skeleton turning into the roller coaster track.

The credit sequence to Se7ven is disturbing by using grainy, scratchy old film look. The letters are Messy and it shows graphic scenes that make you feel uncomfortable and are disturbing but also show you how the movie will be like, obviously showing that this is some sort of crime thriller type of movie. The music is very eerie and creepy adding to the vibe. This intro is done really well and overall achieves the vibe that is expressed for the rest of the film.

Halloween is a movie about the character Micheal Myers who kills people in his hometown this movie is scary and gory and can be uncomfortable. The opening credits is a slow zoom in to a pumpkin and very creepy music that makes you feel uncomfortable and uneasy. The screen is completely black besides the pumpkin and the words that are orange.

Famous opening scenes

I have researched and analyzed three different horror movie openings the first being from scream five when Tara is attacked in her house. It begins with her getting a phone call and at first, she isn’t very suspicious about it but then the mood gets darker and the music gets more suspenseful as the guy on the phone is scaring her and saying very creepy things. The house is also dark and very quiet, making Her look very vulnerable. It then escalates when he threatens to kill her when she gets the questions wrong. She runs to open the door to save her friend and gets stabbed right when she opens it. And then she gets brutally attacked.

The second one is the quiet place and it starts by a black screen saying day 89 So it draws the audience in wondering what that could mean but then it quickly gives you insight to what it may be by showing a world that has been destroyed it gives more and more clues of what happened by showing a deserted town with no one in it It then shows two children trying to be very quiet. There is a deaf girl and the sound they have used to show what she may be hearing is not completely silent, but it’s a sound that is not really anything at all almost like a slowed thumping. It then shows a mom trying to find medicine for her sick child in the rundown pharmacy, but she is also trying very hard to be quiet so it’s obvious that this is not just a game for the kids. The opening scene really shows you the relationships within the family. When they are walking in the woods, even though they didn’t want the little kid playing with the spaceship he still had it anyway and when it made a sound the dad and family turned around with petrified expressions on their faces. The dad ran to try to save his son but an alien got to him first which further tells us that there are aliens that are attracted to sound and this is what the movie will be about.

The third opening scene that I really like is to black phone. It starts by establishing the main character and that he’s just a normal young boy who plays baseball, but it also shows a scene of him shooting a rocket into the air by himself. This shows his true passion may not actually be baseball. And then it’s a scene of one of the young boys that we saw playing baseball riding his bike down the street smiling at two laughing girls and just being happy and a kid but then a black very creepy looking truck comes around the corner and the the child is instantly curios it then it cuts too a montage where it shows the credits and blurry but clear pictures of blood and different shots of things like missing child posters, and missing child written on trucks and black balloons floating in the air almost a dream like sensation that relates to the film further on. This montage has very eerie music playing during it.

Cambridge introduction

Hello. From now on all of my blog post will be towards my Cambridge project. I want to use this post to greet you guys to my blog and explain to you how I will be Setting up my project and planning what I’m going to be doing. I have picked horror as my genre Because I find horror movies to be very interesting and engaging to watch. We have learned about film openings in class and all the Different techniques to use to approach my project.

I will be definitely focusing on establishing the tone because with horror movies. It is very important that it’s clear to the audience that this movie will be scary by using dark lights and suspenseful music. Establishing the main character and a little overview of what might be going on throughout the movie and developing a vibe so the audience will be drawn in from the start. And developing how the character is going to be perceived throughout the film so the audience has a better understanding of who this person will be like throughout the film. establishing setting is very important because the setting is a big part in introducing the story by making it a scary setting.

Portfolio Project Genre #2

Comedy movies are made to make people laugh and have a good time and they are usually for teens and adults who like jokes and funny situations. Most comedies show awkward moments and embarrassing stuff and over the top characters or situations that are easy to relate to. They can be about friends, school and family or just random silly things that happen in everyday life. Filmmakers use funny dialogue and reactions and music to make scenes even funnier and keep the audience laughing. Comedy movies are marketed to look fun and entertaining so trailers show the funniest parts and posters use bright colors or funny pictures to get people interested. Some comedies also mix in other things like romance, adventure or even a little drama but the main goal is always to make people laugh. Movies like Superbad and Bridesmaids (2011) are good examples because they have funny situations ams relatable characters and jokes that stick with you even after the movie ends.

Portfolio Project Genre #1

Horror movies are made to scare people and keep them on edge. They are usually made for teenagers and young adults who like the feeling of being scared while watching something fun with friends. The stories often focus on common fears like being alone or being chased or dealing with something unknown. Horror movies usually include killers monsters ghosts or haunted places and the characters are often stuck in dangerous situations. Filmmakers use dark lighting creepy music and loud sudden sounds to make scenes more intense. Horror movies are also marketed to look scary with dark posters and trailers that show fast scary moments. Movies like Scream (2022) and The Conjuring (2013) are good examples because they use suspense and fear to keep the audience interested the whole time.
